Plain-English Explanation

The DPF differential pressure sensor measures the pressure difference across the particulate filter. The ECU uses this to estimate soot loading and decide when to regenerate. If the sensor signal is outside the expected range or not plausible compared to operating conditions, P2453 is set.

Common Symptoms

  • Check engine light on.
  • DPF warning lights or messages may appear.
  • Loss of power or limp mode on some vehicles if DPF loading cannot be trusted.

Typical Causes

  • Blocked or cracked pressure sensor pipes/hoses.
  • Failed differential pressure sensor.
  • Wiring or connector issues to the sensor.
  • In rare cases, an actual severely blocked DPF confusing the pressure reading.

What To Check First

  1. Inspect DPF pressure sensor hoses for cracks, blockage or disconnection.
  2. Check the sensor connector and wiring for damage or corrosion.
  3. Compare live pressure readings at idle and under load; values should change but stay plausible.
  4. If the DPF is suspected to be heavily blocked, confirm with backpressure tests before replacement.
