P2463 – DPF Soot Accumulation (CDI)
P2463 usually means soot load is high. The key is discovering why regeneration isn’t completing (or isn’t being allowed to start).
How it usually shows up
- DPF warning, limp mode after short trips
- Fault returns after a forced regen
- Fan running often, higher idle at times
Most common causes (Mercedes)
- Repeated interrupted regens (short journeys, shutdown mid-regeneration)
- Regen inhibited by low coolant temperature (thermostat issues)
- Low voltage / charging instability preventing regen
- EGR/boost plausibility faults blocking regen events
- Differential pressure sensor drift or hose restrictions
Practical test plan
- Check driving pattern and whether regens are being interrupted.
- Confirm coolant temperature reaches normal and stays stable.
- Verify battery and charging stability.
- Check for co-existing EGR/boost plausibility codes.
- Use live data: soot load vs differential pressure vs regen status.
- After fixes, allow proper drive cycle for adaptations to stabilise.

Tip: If you have multiple codes, start with the one that appeared first, then confirm with live data before replacing parts.
